Using T-money for the first time at Incheon Airport
The price of a T-money card is separate from its travel credit; this guide explains buying and topping up the card, tapping on trains and buses, and using or refunding the balance at the end of your trip.
Using T-money for the first time at Incheon Airport
If you are taking the Airport Railroad All-Stop Train, you can buy a T-money card and load it with credit. The same card works on Seoul's subway and city buses. The Airport Railroad Express Train requires a separate ticket, and some airport limousine buses also require a ticket bought at a counter or machine.
Buy a card and load enough for the first day
In the public arrivals area of Terminal 1, look for a convenience store that sells T-money, such as CU. You can ask the staff, "T-money card, please." At Terminal 2, an information desk or Airport Railroad staff can help you find a nearby seller, as outlets and stock may differ. Store locations and opening hours are listed in the airport facilities guide and on signs at the airport.
The card itself costs extra; its purchase price does not become travel credit. Bring Korean-won cash to top up at a convenience store, or use a recharge machine at a subway station. You can start with enough for your first day's journeys and add more at participating convenience stores or subway stations when needed. Loading the whole trip's budget at once may leave you with a balance to deal with on the last day.

Card designs vary by store and season, and character designs depend on each store's stock. When tapping, take out the T-money card rather than holding a wallet containing several transit cards against the reader. Overlapping cards can cause a reading error.
Tap in and out on the subway
Tap your card at the gate when entering the subway, then tap again when you leave at your destination. The exit record allows the fare to be calculated for the distance traveled. You can keep topping up the same card instead of buying a single-use ticket for each journey. If the balance is low, add more before your next trip.

Tap again when leaving a city bus
On Seoul city buses, you usually board at the front and tap your card as you get on. As your stop approaches, press the stop button, then tap the reader near the rear door before getting off. This exit tap is needed to calculate distance-based fares and apply eligible transfer discounts. The record is also used when transferring from a bus to the subway.

Discount registration and convenience-store purchases
Travelers aged 6–18 need to present their Tmoney card and identification and register their date of birth to use child or youth fares. Ask for discount registration when buying the card.
You can also spend the loaded balance on small purchases at participating convenience stores and other businesses displaying the T-money logo. Look for the logo near the checkout.

Using or refunding the remaining balance
Depending on the refund conditions, you may be able to get the remaining balance back at a T-money sales or top-up outlet. The card's purchase price is not refundable, and a balance refund may carry a fee. For a larger balance, consult T-money's official information first for eligible refund locations and limits.
A small amount can go toward something you need at a convenience store that accepts T-money. You can also keep the card for another trip.
