Hongdae and Yeonnam for First-Timers: A Walk and an Easy Evening Return

Use Hongik University Station as your anchor: walk Yeonnam’s park and lanes, loop back for Hongdae, then check your route home before the evening ends.

A simple out-and-back day

Save **Hongik University Station** as both your starting point and return landmark. Begin by the **Gyeongui Line Forest Park near Exit 3**, explore the Yeonnam section, then return via the station before crossing into the Hongdae streets. You do not need to walk the entire park.[1][2][3]

Daytime: Yeonnam

Follow the park path and make short detours into nearby lanes. Keep the park and station pinned on your map so a detour stays easy to reverse. Choose a place that is actually open for food or a break; do not build the day around an unverified shop or menu. Leave residential entrances and pedestrian space clear.[2][3]

Afternoon: Hongdae

Retrace your route to the station, use a marked crossing, and browse Hongdae’s streets. Shops, public art and any activity you happen upon can set your pace, but do not count on a particular performance or event. In crowded lanes, agree on a station exit as your meeting point.[2][3]

Evening and the way home

Eat somewhere from which you can comfortably return to the station. **Before staying out late, check the actual route, direction and last service to your lodging** in a transit app or the operator’s notice. Hongik University Station serves Line 2, the Gyeongui–Jungang Line and the Airport Railroad; sharing a station does not mean every destination is a direct ride.[1] If trains no longer suit your journey, consider an official taxi-hailing option from a well-lit main road and show the driver your lodging address in Korean. Rainy-day shortcut: visit just the Yeonnam park section and end at the station.
