Udo day trip: choose your ferry and island transport first
Plan the return ferry and your way around Udo before collecting attractions. Sea and weather conditions can change operations. On your travel day, check available sailing information through the Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority ferry traffic service (PATIS). If Udo sailings are not listed or current fares and vehicle-loading details are unavailable, confirm directly at the Seongsan or Jongdal terminal.
Where do ferries depart?
Ferries leave Jeju’s main island from Seongsan Port or Jongdal Port. The crossing is approximately 10–15 minutes depending on the route. If using Seongsan Port General Passenger Terminal, park an ordinary rental car before boarding. Seongsan services may land at Cheonjin or Haumokdong on Udo. Confirm the actual arrival port and your return boarding port when buying tickets; verify whether the Jongdal service is running and where it connects that day.
Bring identification for your party and ask the operator or terminal whether a boarding declaration or other documents are required, and how to buy tickets at current fares. This article deliberately gives no fixed timetable or fare.
Can I bring a rental car?
Ordinary rental cars are generally restricted. The official Jeju tourism listing says the outside-vehicle restriction was extended from August 1, 2026 through July 31, 2029. Conditional exceptions include rental vehicles used by mobility-impaired travelers or overnight Udo guests, and qualifying Category 1 low-emission hydrogen or electric rentals. Do not assume eligibility: ask the ferry company about supporting documents and loading, and ask the rental company whether insurance covers driving on Udo.
How do I get around Udo?
The sightseeing loop bus follows set stops and service times. A bicycle offers flexible stops but exposes you to wind and sun. Before renting an e-bike or other powered vehicle, check license and age rules, insurance, battery, return deadline and vehicle-specific restrictions. If riding is unsuitable, combine the loop bus with short walks and visit fewer places.
For a first visit, confirm your return sailing on arrival, then select one beach and one or two nearby sights such as Udobong. Check how to get back to a car parked on Jeju if your return port differs. This is an itinerary suggestion, not a promised duration.

Cancellations and the return trip
Before setting out, ask the operator or terminal about today’s sailings, the arrival port, and the actual departure port and time of the last return ferry. Weather and sea conditions can change or stop service. Recheck after landing, and do not travel far from the port just before your return. If sailings stop, follow terminal/operator instructions and prepare to change your accommodation or mainland plans. Never treat same-day return as guaranteed.
Before you go: check ID, boarding formalities, vehicle eligibility, local transport conditions and both directions of today’s ferry service.
