Busan Sky Capsule or Beach Train: which ride should you choose?
Choose between an elevated capsule ride and the coastal train to Songjeong, with practical guidance on direction, return tickets and the revised 2026 fares.
Choose the Sky Capsule if you want a slow ride in a small cabin above the coast. Choose the Beach Train if you want to travel farther along the shore and get off at intermediate stops. Both belong to Haeundae Blueline Park, but their routes and tickets work differently. Deciding where you want to finish makes the departure direction and return journey much easier to plan.

A slow elevated ride, or the coast as far as Songjeong
The Sky Capsule travels the 2 km between Mipo and Cheongsapo on rails 7–10 m above ground. A one-way ride takes about 30 minutes. It suits a visit where sitting in a small capsule and watching the coast is an experience in its own right. The cabins are the same size whether you buy a two-, three- or four-person ticket; the fare changes with the number of passengers.
The Beach Train is a sightseeing train shared with other passengers. Its 4.8 km route runs from Mipo through Cheongsapo to Songjeong, taking about 25 minutes one way over the full route. Seats are not assigned: you take an available seat and may have to stand if they are all occupied. If someone in your party needs to sit while enjoying the sea view, a reservation alone does not secure a seat.
Its stops, in order, are Mipo → Dalmaji Tunnel → Haewol Skywalk → Cheongsapo → Daritdol Skywalk → Gudeokpo → Songjeong. Trains also run in the opposite direction. This is the option for reaching Songjeong or breaking up the coast with stops along the way. A Sky Capsule journey ends at Cheongsapo or Mipo; it does not continue to Songjeong.

Choose your direction around what comes afterwards
For a journey starting on the Haeundae side and ending with time in Cheongsapo, choose the Mipo → Cheongsapo Sky Capsule. Choose Cheongsapo → Mipo if you would rather finish at Mipo. Even though both rides connect the same two stations, you select the departure station separately when booking. Where you need to go after getting off is a more useful starting point than assuming one direction always has the better view.
If you start at Songjeong, the Beach Train can take you towards Cheongsapo or Mipo. If you want to combine both rides, you still start with the Beach Train there: Songjeong has no Sky Capsule service. To add a ride to a Haeundae outing, consider shortening one of the longer walks in the Haeundae and Gwangalli day guide.
Plan the ticket that brings you back
A Mipo → Cheongsapo Sky Capsule ticket does not include the return ride. You can reserve a separate Cheongsapo → Mipo Beach Train ticket, buy one at the station if tickets remain, or purchase another one-way Sky Capsule journey in the reverse direction. The operator gives about 10 minutes as the Beach Train running time between Mipo and Cheongsapo. Allow extra time to move between boarding areas and wait.
Choose a Beach Train pass according to how often you want to get off and board again.
• A single-ride pass ends when you get off. You cannot stop for a break and then board again on that ticket.
• A two-ride pass allows one boarding at each of two stations of your choice, for two boardings in total. For example, ride from Mipo to Songjeong, then from Songjeong back to Mipo.
• An all-stops pass allows one boarding at each station, up to seven boardings. You cannot board at the same station twice.
Everyone must get off at the Mipo and Songjeong termini, and getting off there counts towards use of the pass. For example, Mipo to Cheongsapo for a break, followed by Cheongsapo to Songjeong, already uses two boardings. A two-ride pass would not cover the return to Mipo after that. The all-stops pass is not an unlimited return ticket allowing repeated boarding at the same station either.

Compare the fare per capsule with the fare per person
These are the operator's standard fares checked on October 19, 2026. Its April 14, 2026 notice applies the increased fares to online bookings and station purchases paid for from May 1, 2026. Use the amount shown for your current selection rather than an older price on a booking platform.
• One Sky Capsule, one way: KRW 50,000 for two people, KRW 55,000 for three, or KRW 60,000 for four.
• Beach Train single ride, per person: KRW 10,000 departing Mipo or Songjeong; KRW 8,000 departing Cheongsapo or a minor station.
• Beach Train two-ride pass: KRW 14,000 per person. All-stops pass: KRW 16,000 per person.
There is also a package combining a one-way Sky Capsule ride with the Beach Train all-stops pass. If you want both, compare the package with separate tickets, checking its departure station, which ride comes first and how many people it covers. The figures above are undiscounted standard fares. Child and resident discounts have their own eligibility rules; discounted station tickets require proof and remaining same-day availability.
Book the right facility, direction and date
The official reservation guide says tickets for the week four weeks ahead, Monday through Sunday, open every Tuesday at 7 a.m. Match the facility, departure station, travel date, party size and initial boarding time on the purchase page. Sky Capsule reservations use a 30-minute entry window: a 10:00 reservation means entering between 10:00 and 10:30 and boarding in order. Leave room for the queue rather than treating it as a departure precisely on the hour. For the Beach Train, you take the initially reserved service; the operator asks passengers to wait at the platform at least 10 minutes beforehand.
A small separate allocation of same-day tickets is sold at station ticket offices on a first-come, first-served basis. An online sellout does not mean station tickets will still be available. The official FAQ also says some overseas cards may not work because of authentication methods. If a particular time matters, try arranging the booking before your trip.
Official-site reservations are changed by cancelling and buying again, rather than directly editing the time, and cancellation fees may apply. Once the booked boarding time has passed, there is no refund even if you have not boarded. The FAQ gives a fee waiver for tickets booked on the official site on the day of travel and cancelled before boarding time. Tickets from other sellers follow those sellers' terms. Read the conditions for the channel you actually use.

Children, mobility equipment and weather
The normal Sky Capsule capacity is four. Five people generally need to split between capsules, but the operator's 2026 Korean guidance allows five in a four-person capsule when the group includes one child described as age seven or younger, born in 2020 or later. Infants under 36 months travel free but still count towards the total number aboard; bring proof of age. Beach Train passengers aged 36 months and over need a ticket.
Strollers must be folded on both rides. According to the current FAQ, manual wheelchairs can be used on the Beach Train but must be folded and moved into the Sky Capsule; powered wheelchairs cannot board either. If transferring out of a wheelchair would be difficult, ask the operator about boarding arrangements and access through your chosen station before booking.
Both normally operate in rain, but heavy rain or typhoons may stop service, and safety inspections can change operating hours. Check the day's notices and your last return service. If visibility is poor, you can leave out one ride. To fit this into a wider trip, first set aside your coastal day using the Busan two-night, three-day guide.
