Seoul to Busan: KTX, SRT, Coach or Flight Door to Door
Compare Seoul Station, Suseo, Seoul Gyeongbu and Gimpo options by total time, fare, luggage and final Busan destination.
Seoul to Busan: compare the whole door-to-door trip
Do not compare only time on board. Here, total journey means your Seoul hotel to the station, terminal or airport; a sensible check-in buffer; the intercity leg; and the final trip to your Busan accommodation. Information was checked on 13 September 2026. Recheck fares, discounts, availability, cancellations and service changes in the official booking screen before travel.[1][2][4][7]
30-second decision card
• First visit, Seomyeon or Nampo: KTX from Seoul Station to Busan Station is normally the simplest. Busan Metro Line 1 connects Busan Station with both areas.[1][10]
• Southeast Seoul: Choose SRT if Suseo is much easier to reach. It also terminates at Busan Station.[2]
• Haeundae: Rail requires Line 1 and a transfer at Seomyeon to Line 2. If Gimpo is very convenient and the flight works, compare Gimhae Airport–Light Rail–Sasang–Line 2. Neither option is automatically “direct to Haeundae.”[7][8][10]
• Large bags, children or parents: Prioritise reserved-seat KTX/SRT and consider a taxi for the first or last leg. Coaches have luggage holds but road delays and a rest stop.
• Late night: A night coach can help only when that date’s Seoul Gyeongbu–Busan service exists; also check whether Busan local transport will still run.[4]
• Sold out: Search Seoul KTX and Suseo SRT, then conventional trains, Seoul Gyeongbu coaches and Gimpo flights. A returned seat is never guaranteed.
Option cards based on total time
KTX — the default for most visitors
• Route: Seoul Station → Busan Station.
• Representative adult standard fare: KRW 59,800 one way; the payable price can change with train, class and discount.[1]
• On-board time: roughly the 2h20 range for faster trains and around three hours or longer for trains with more stops; use the duration shown for your exact service.[1]
• Realistic total: 20–60 min to Seoul Station + 20–30 min buffer + 2h20–3h+ train + 15–60 min in Busan = about 3h20–5h.
• Best for: a first visit, central Seoul/Hongdae/Myeongdong, Seomyeon or Nampo, and families valuing predictability.

Seoul Station links to Lines 1 and 4 and airport rail, but walking to the platform takes time. Compare it with Suseo from your exact address. At Busan Station, Nampo and Seomyeon are on Line 1; Haeundae requires changing to Line 2 at Seomyeon.[10]
SRT — when Suseo is closer
• Route: Suseo Station → Busan Station.
• Published base fare: KRW 52,600 standard, KRW 76,300 first class; confirm the current checkout amount.[3]
• Realistic total: 20–70 min to Suseo + 20–30 min buffer + about 2h25–3h+ train + 15–60 min in Busan = 3h30–5h20.
• It suits Gangnam, Songpa and Suseo. From Jongno, Myeongdong or Hongdae, the longer trip to Suseo can erase the fare advantage.

Conventional trains — possible, but slow
Depending on the date, Korail may show direct or connecting ITX-Saemaeul, ITX-Maeum or Mugunghwa services.[1] Do not assume a direct train runs at your preferred time. Representative adult one-way fares are about KRW 28,600 for Mugunghwa to KRW 42,600 for ITX-Saemaeul-type service. A direct run often takes about 4h40–5h40+, pushing the door-to-door trip toward six hours. Verify train name, transfers and arrival station in Korail.[1]
Express/intercity coach — budget and night fallback
• Main route: Seoul Express Bus Terminal (Seoul Gyeongbu, Gyeongbu/Yeongdong lines) → Busan Central Bus Terminal at Nopo. It does not arrive at Busan Station.[4][5]
• Representative daytime range: about KRW 26,700 regular, KRW 39,700 excellent, KRW 51,600 premium; night departures may cost more. Confirm the exact class and fare in KOBUS.[4]
• A displayed four hours excludes city access and can grow with congestion and the rest stop. Budget 5h30–7h30+ total.
• Nopo connects to Metro Line 1. Seomyeon and Nampo stay on Line 1; Haeundae needs a transfer route chosen from live information.[10]

For a possible Busan West/Sasang arrival, search the intercity portal with the origin and destination terminal separately.[6] Never assume Dong Seoul or Seoul Nambu has a Sasang service on every date. Sasang can be useful for Line 2 toward Seomyeon and Haeundae when an actual service is available.
Flying — the one-hour flight is not the journey
• Route: Gimpo domestic terminal → Gimhae domestic terminal.
• Airfares are dynamic by carrier, date, baggage and refund rules. Check KAC flight information, then compare the final total in the airline’s official checkout.[7][8]
• Realistic total: 30–80 min to Gimpo + around 60 min airport buffer + about 1h flight + 20–40 min arrival/baggage + 35–90 min into Busan = 3h30–5h30+.
• It can work when your Seoul hotel is close to Lines 5/9 or airport rail and your destination is Sasang, western Busan or the Line 2 corridor. Baggage fees, weather and the long ground trip to Haeundae prevent an automatic “fastest” verdict.
Driving — a supporting option
Plan roughly five hours of driving before breaks or congestion, and 6–8h+ door to door after rest, parking and city traffic. Query Korea Expressway Corporation with the exact entry/exit interchanges and vehicle class; then add fuel, one-way rental fees and parking.[9]
Choose again by Busan destination
• Seomyeon: Busan Station rail arrival uses Line 1; Sasang uses Line 2; Gimhae uses light rail then Line 2.[10]
• Nampo/Jagalchi: Busan Station plus Line 1 is simplest. Nopo is a long Line 1 ride; the airport adds transfers.
• Haeundae: Busan Station requires Seomyeon transfer; Sasang gives Line 2 toward Jangsan; the airport adds light rail to Sasang. First identify whether the hotel is really nearest Centum City, Dongbaek, Haeundae, Jung-dong or Jangsan.[10]

Booking and sold-out checklist
1. Measure door-to-door access from your accommodation to Seoul Station, Suseo, Seoul Gyeongbu and Gimpo.
2. Compare the Busan hotel with Busan Station, Nopo, Sasang and Gimhae Airport.
3. Search Korail/SR, KOBUS/intercity and KAC plus the airline’s official checkout.[1][2][4][6][7][8]
4. Leave 20–30 minutes at rail stations, enough time to find a coach bay, and more than the airline’s stated domestic check-in cutoff.
5. On holidays and peak Friday/Sunday periods, expect early sell-outs and changed extra services.
If KTX is sold out: try SRT, another KTX time/conventional rail, Seoul Gyeongbu coach, then Gimpo flight. Confirm Nopo versus Sasang before buying a bus ticket, and include a taxi if you arrive after Busan Metro closes.
