The AREX All-Stop Train takes you directly to Hongik University Station for accommodation nearby. Bus 6002 is also worth comparing if its stop is closer to your hotel or you have large bags.

If your accommodation is close to Hongik University Station, you can get there on the AREX All-Stop Train without changing. If the walk from the station would be long with a large suitcase, look up the stops for bus 6002 as well. If both are far from your hotel, or public transport has stopped running, a taxi from the airport's designated rank is another option.

How far is the walk from the station or bus stop?

Look up the routes between your accommodation's address and both the Hongik University Station exits and your stop on bus 6002. Consider the route you would take with wheeled luggage or when using lifts. In addition to the train ride, allow time for immigration, waiting, reaching the platform and walking to your accommodation.

• AREX All-Stop Train: The ride to Hongik University Station takes about 52 minutes from T1 or 58 minutes from T2. Listed adult transport-card fares were 4,650 won from T1 and 5,250 won from T2. It suits one or two people with light luggage staying near the station. Immigration, waiting, reaching the platform and the walk to your accommodation take additional time.

• Airport bus 6002: The fare is 17,000 won for adults and 12,000 won for children, with journey time depending on your stop and traffic. It is worth comparing if you have large bags and your accommodation is close to a stop. Check the day's timetable, as congestion, diversions and stop changes can affect the trip.

• Taxi from a designated rank: Fares depend on the meter, vehicle type, route and surcharges; journey time also depends on traffic. Compare this option for three or four people, late-night travel or a drop-off at your accommodation's entrance. Surcharges may apply from 22:00 to 04:00. Use the designated ranks.

The All-Stop Train goes directly to Hongik University Station

It is the All-Stop Train that calls at Hongik University Station. The Express Train goes to Seoul Station, leaving you to backtrack to Hongdae. Work out which train you can catch after finishing immigration and collecting your bags, then follow the '공항철도/AREX' signs to the transportation centre at your arrival terminal, T1 or T2.

You can use a transport card such as T-money or a single-journey card bought from a ticket machine. At the time of the check, the adult single-journey fare was 100 won higher than the transport-card fare, with a 500-won deposit refundable at the destination station. If you have large bags, locating the exit towards your accommodation and the lifts before you arrive can make the trip easier.

If a 6002 stop leaves you with a shorter walk

Staying near a 6002 stop can spare you some of the walking through the station with large bags. If the walk from the bus stop is long too, compare the onward routes from both the train and the bus. Use the operator's stop information and timetable for your travel date, allowing for congestion, diversions or changed stops. Assess the last service you can catch from the time you finish immigration and baggage collection, not from your landing time.

When public transport has finished or you need a drop-off at the door

If both trains and buses have stopped running, use the designated airport taxi rank. Taxi fares depend on the meter, vehicle type and route, with possible night surcharges from 22:00 to 04:00. For three or four people, compare the fare with the combined train or bus fares, and ask whether one vehicle can fit everyone and all your suitcases.
