Seoul map apps: Naver Map, KakaoMap and Google Maps
In Seoul, a practical setup is to use Naver Map or KakaoMap as your primary routing app, while keeping Google Maps for familiar saved places and multilingual names. Features can change by update, device, account and region. This article therefore does not make a fixed claim about Google Maps' current Korea routing. Immediately before publication, test all three apps on the same device, at the same time, with identical start and destination points, then update the text and screenshots.[7][11][12]
Before you leave
1. Install at least one Korean map app and check location permission and language.
2. Save your accommodation's Korean place name and road-name address as text and a screenshot.
3. Make sure battery-saving settings do not stop location updates; carry a power bank.
4. Screenshot the key route, exit number and stop number in case data drops.

Naver Map: multilingual place search and transit
The official description lists Korean, English, Japanese and Chinese maps, English navigation, real-time departures/arrivals and boarding/alighting alerts.[8][9] Do not look only at total time: check the bus number, stop name and number, subway line color, transfer station and exit number. Alerts are useful, but they do not guarantee the last service or a disruption; compare them with station displays.

KakaoMap: domestic routes and live traffic
Its official app description includes driving, transit, walking and cycling routes, real-time buses and traffic, and a subway map.[10] If an English venue search fails, copy the Korean business name or full road-name address from the venue's official site or your booking. There is no evidence that one app is always more accurate. If one fails, paste the same Korean text into the other.
Google Maps: keep the familiarity, verify the final route
Google's help describes multiple travel modes but warns that availability can vary by country or region.[12] A Korea Tourism Organization page updated in October 2025 said GPS navigation was unavailable in Korea at that time; that wording alone cannot establish every feature in 2026.[11] Use Google Maps for saved places or multilingual names if helpful, but cross-check detailed walking, driving and transit instructions with a Korean app and street signs. Editors must retest the offered modes on the publication device.

If search fails: five steps
1. Paste the Korean name instead of the romanized name.
2. Search the full road-name address.
3. Find the nearest station or landmark first.
4. Zoom in to make sure the pin is not across a divided road or at another branch.
5. Confirm in the second Korean app and against signs on site.
Transit and the last 500 meters
For buses, verify direction, stop number and live arrival—not just the route number. For the subway, save line color, destination direction, transfer station and exit separately. The final walk may take longer because of wide crossings, underground malls, hills or stairs. If you need a lift, choose an accessible exit rather than simply the nearest one.

Open the place detail and show the Korean place name plus road-name address in large type. With a ride-hailing app, match the plate to the assigned car and inspect the pickup pin and traffic direction so the car is not waiting across the road. Pre-publication device test
• Record device, OS, app version, language, login state and KST time.
• Compare identical endpoints at the same time.
• Directly verify which modes Google Maps offers.
• Recheck current store descriptions and on-site signs.
• Mask account details, saved places, live location and private addresses.
Bottom line
Pick one Korean map as your default and use Korean names and addresses to reduce failed searches. Google Maps may remain useful for familiar saved lists and multilingual labels, but never infer its current Korea capabilities: verify the final route in a Korean app and on the street.
