Practical routes from Seoul Station: Line 4 to Myeongdong, AREX All-Stop to Hongdae, and a Sadang transfer for Gangnam.
Seoul Station to Myeongdong, Hongdae and Gangnam
Seoul Station connects KTX, Subway Lines 1 and 4, AREX and other rail services.[2] The simple rule is Line 4 for Myeongdong, the AREX All-Stop Train for Hongdae, and Line 4 then Line 2 for Gangnam. Researched September 12, 2026: check Seoul Metro Cyber Station and station displays on travel day for disruptions and last trains.[1]
First: find the correct railway inside Seoul Station
After leaving KTX, follow Subway signs rather than walking straight outside. Line 4 is light blue; AREX has Airport Railroad signage. Seoul uses line colors and three-digit station codes, useful when names look similar.[3] With luggage, prioritize elevator signs over the shortest stairs and confirm your accommodation’s exit in a map app.
Myeongdong: direct on Line 4
1. Follow Line 4 (light blue) to the gate and platform.
2. Board toward Hoehyeon, Myeongdong and Chungmuro—the Oido direction.
3. Alight at Myeongdong (424), after Hoehyeon: two stops from Seoul Station (426).[3]
4. Before exiting, match the exit to your hotel address. The shopping district and underground passages are broad; reaching the station is not the same as reaching the door.

With heavy bags: the ride is short, but walking inside Seoul Station and stairs or passages in Myeongdong can be the harder part. Check an accessible exit, not merely the nearest one.
Hongdae: direct on the AREX All-Stop Train
1. Follow Airport Railroad / AREX signs. Allow for a walk from the KTX or Line 4 areas.
2. Board the All-Stop Train toward Incheon Airport. Do not take the AREX Express Train: it does not stop at Hongik University.
3. Alight at Hongik University (A03) after Gongdeok.
4. This large interchange also serves Line 2 and the Gyeongui–Jungang Line. Choose the exit for Hongdae, Yeonnam or your hotel before walking out.

Gangnam: Line 4, transfer to Line 2 at Sadang
1. Take Line 4 toward Oido.
2. At Sadang (433), follow signs for the Line 2 transfer.
3. Board Line 2 toward Bangbae, Seocho, Seoul Nat’l Univ. of Education and Gangnam. Checking that the next stop is Bangbae prevents a wrong-way ride.
4. Alight at Gangnam (222) after Seoul Nat’l Univ. of Education. Gangnam also connects to the Shinbundang Line; do not follow that line merely because your address says Gangnam-gu.

When a taxi may be better
These rail routes are straightforward, but a taxi can be practical late at night, during disruption, with several large bags, when stairs are difficult, or when door-to-door arrival matters. Use the official taxi rank and show the driver the accommodation’s Korean name and road-name address. Traffic makes fixed time and price estimates unreliable, so none are given here.
